scott martinez new headshot websiteHappy Easter! The first quarter of 2015 proved to be a busy time for North Louisiana Economic Partnership (NLEP). IBM announced 400 new technology jobs in the Monroe area. CenturyLink also announced plans for an 88-acre "smart growth" development with a mix of residential, commercial and recreational uses to be located west of its corporate campus in Monroe.  The "live, work, play" development will be anchored by the new IBM Application Development and Innovation Center.

We are currently working on 43 projects in our business development pipeline. The economic impact of these projects total nearly $2.8 billion in capital investment and would create nearly 1,200 new jobs . Seven of 43 projects are in the A stage, in which a decision is imminent.

NLEP presented two major events during the first quarter, which garnered large attendance and very positive feedback: the NLEP Annual Meeting and the NLEP Top Skills Workforce Summit.  These successes wouldn't be possible without our investors and stakeholders. Thank you for supporting NLEP and economic development in North Louisiana.
IBM-Monroe-Streetscape1North Louisiana's technology corridor continues to grow with the latest announcement from IBM on February 16, 2015. The technology leader will establish a Application Development and Innovation Center in Monroe, La., creating 400 new technology job. The Center will be across from CenturyLink in a new 88-acre "live, work, play" development.

“We’re proud to be part of this innovative public-private partnership with the State of Louisiana and CenturyLink to further develop highly valued skills and solutions expertise in security, analytics and mobility applications,” said Colleen Arnold, senior vice president, IBM Sales and Distribution. “Louisiana is the right place for high-tech job growth with an exceptional education system, business environment and workforce to serve the needs of our clients.” Read more>>>
CenturyLink HQ photoCenturyLink CEO and President Glen F. Post, III along with elected officials formally opened CenturyLink’s new 300,000 square-foot Technology Center of Excellence on March 24, 2015. The Center will help fulfill the company’s 2011 announcement of an 800-job headquarters expansion.

“Today marks an important milestone for CenturyLink and our North Louisiana community as we open the CenturyLink Technology Center of Excellence, a facility that will be a key in driving our company’s future growth,” Post said. “As CenturyLink transitions from a traditional network communications provider to a growing, integrated provider of advanced IP-enabled network, cloud, hosting and IT services, it will be increasingly important that we are able to attract the best talent in the world. We believe the Technology Center will help us accomplish this transition successfully.” Read more>>>
IntegriCo CompositesIntegriCo Composites received national recognition for its $20 million economic development project in Springhill, Louisiana. The company won the 2015 Corporate Investment & Community Impact (CiCi) Award in the community impact category from Trade & Industry Development, a leading national site selection magazine. The magazine annually honors companies that have made the most notable impact on communities.

IntegriCo Composites announced in March 2014 it would locate a manufacturing operation at the North Webster Parish Industrial District (NWPID) Park. brown buildersBrown Builders, an NLEP investor company, has been named North American Volume Builder of the Year for 2014. The recognition honors the builder with the highest sales and is awarded by Butler Manufacturing, the world leader in building solutions and the largest provider of metal building construction materials.
“Brown Builders wants to thank our Louisiana commercial construction partners who helped us sell more than 1,000,000 sq. ft. of Butler pre-engineered metal buildings—more than any other builder in North America—to make earning this prestigious award possible,” said Kristen Brown, President of Brown Builders.  “There were many who helped to make this award possible including Benteler Steel Tube at the Caddo/Bossier Port and others who have allowed us to use design and build Butler pre-engineered metal building for manufacturing, warehouse and office buildings in Shreveport, Bossier City, Lafayette and New Orleans.”

proof_MG_4486NLEP's Top Skills Workforce Summit on March 17th attracted nearly 100 business leaders, educators, workforce development experts, and community leaders to hear keynote speaker, Louisiana Superintendent of Education John White, speak about the new Jump Start career diploma.

The first time event also showcased three panel discussions focused on the workforce needs of health care, skilled trades, and technology companies.  Representatives from all three sectors point to the critical shortages of qualified workers.

“As we work to grow our manufacturing base in North Louisiana, it is crucial that we develop methods and systems for filling the labor market with the proper skill sets that will allow companies to be successful and grow their businesses," said Frank Russell, Libbey Plant Manager.

The NLEP 2015 Annual Meeting was a soldout hit! Former NFL MVP Joe Theismann spoke to a record crowd about the how to succeed in both life and career. The former Washington Redskins quarterback discussed his “Game Plan for Success” by drawing parallels between winning in football and in business.
