North Louisiana Leading in Advanced Manufacturing


With the lowest cost of doing business in the nation (Forbes 2011, KPMG 2012), a skilled and experienced manufacturing workforce and strong university programs providing innovative research, North Louisiana is leading the way in advanced manufacturing. In many parts of the United States, manufacturing is a declining component of the economy.  But across the fourteen parishes of North Louisiana, manufacturing remains a strong sector with many notable and sizable investments over the last few years.
 

Advanced Manufacturing Project Wins

  • Ronpak , a leading manufacturer of custom printed paper bags, packages and food wraps, announced May 7, 2012 it was moving its coporate headerquarters to Shreveport-Bossier, along with investing $16.8 million to build a new 155,000 square-foot manufacturing facility at The Caddo-Bossier Port. The headquarters and manufacturing plant will create 275 new direct jobs.
  • Music Mountain,  invested $9.3 million to add a 200,000-square-foot injection molding facility at its Shreveport plant. The expansion will create 25 new jobs and retain 70 existing jobs. The project will allow Music Mountain Water to create one-gallon water bottles right here in North Louisiana, which had previously been outsourced to an out-of-state facility.
  • Pratt Industries, an Australian based company, built a 212,000-square-foot paper recycling mill at The Port of Caddo-Bossier, creating 120 jobs.  Pratt Industries invested  $150 million in the project. 
  • Gardner Denver Thomas consolidated its North American operations in Monroe, Louisiana  from Sheboygan, Wisconsin. With the decision to expand in North Louisiana, employment at the Monroe facility will more than quadruple to at least 301 jobs by the year 2011.
