2019 North Louisiana Manufacturing Week

September 30th - October 11th

National Manufacturing Day highlights the workforce needs of manufacturers and exposes students (and their teachers) to the modern manufacturing environment and the skills needed to be competitive for manufacturing jobs. In North Louisiana, we've expanded Manufacturing Day to Manufacturing Week from September 30th- October 11th in response to the growing demand for student tours of manufacturing sites. NLEP's workforce initiative has grown steadily since its inception in 2014 and was recognized in 2017 with an Excellence in Economic Development Silver Award in Human Capital from International Economic Development Council (IEDC), the largest professional organization for economic developers in the world.

North Louisiana Economic Partnership's Top Skills Workforce Program in partnership with the Manufacturing Managers Council of Northwest Louisiana first hosted Manufacturing Week in 2014. Since then, participation from students and manufacturers has grown seven-fold. In 2018, manufacturers and training providers hosted 1,600 high students on tours to learn about the skills and occupation needs of the manufacturing sector. Ten school sytems from Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, DeSoto, Jackson, Lincoln, Natchitoches, Red River, Sabine and Webster Parishes participate in Manufacturing Week tours.

Manufacturing Week encourages early high school students to consider manufacturing training available to them while in high school, through the Jump Start Career Diploma, an initiative of the Louisiana Department of Education. Students following this pathway will graduate with industry based credentials in their chosen field and be career and college ready.
